Coffee from Ecuador remains a rarity on the specialty market, which made this lot from Finca El Aguacate an especially welcome opportunity. The estate has been producing coffee for more than 65 years, with knowledge and practices passed down through multiple generations. In 2018, owners Gonzalo and Susana were joined by their grandson Pablo, whose focus on modernization and quality improvement has helped elevate the farm’s output year after year. This honey‑processed lot stood out on the cupping table for its unexpected combination of candy‑bar richness and bright, green‑apple acidity—a pairing that is both playful and memorable. With only a handful of bags available, we chose to break the lot down into 25‑lb boxes to ensure more of our clients could experience this unique expression of Ecuadorian terroir. In the cup, expect Snickers‑like aromatics, malty sweetness, and a refreshing hint of cucumber. The flavor profile leans into Granny Smith apple, caramel, and peanut notes, carried by a clean, structured honey‑process body. It’s a lively, character‑driven coffee that showcases the potential of Ecuador’s high‑elevation farms when tradition and modern technique meet.
